Think it is safe to say all agree the underlying reason for our unrest, our agitaton, our protests is the very real potential loss of freedom. Unchecked deficits mean a loss of freedom, health care reform can result in a loss of freedom... same with Czars, etc. To that end, a quote I read the other day from the father of conservatism, Sir Edumnd Burke, who spoke this in the British Parliament in March 1775, in opposition to the King's plans for the American colonies:

"In this character of the Americans, a love of freedom is the predominating feature which marks and distinguishes the whole: and as an ardent is always a jealous affection, your colonies become suspicious, restive, and untractable whenever they see the least attempt to wrest from them by force, or shuffle from them by chicanery, what they think the only advantage worth living for. This fierce spirit of liberty is stronger in the English colonies probably than in any other people of the earth."

I think this point is totally lost on the Obama's, the Pelosi's, the Reed's...

Another quote germane , in this day of protest and our individual participation, from Samuel Adams: "If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."
